The effect of chronic sodium loading and sodium restriction on plasma and renal concentrations of prostaglandin A in normal Wistar and spontaneously hypertensive Aoki rats.

چکیده
Lee (1972) has suggested that prostaglandins A and E (PGA and PGE) may play a role in the control of sodium homeostasis and the regulation of blood pressure. Infusions of PGA or PGE into the renal artery have been shown to result in an increase in sodium, potassium and chloride excretion, glomerular filtration rate, total renal blood flow, and cortical blood flow. Further, intravenous administration of PGA to normal and hypertensive humans resulted in lowered blood pressure (Lee, 1972). The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of chronic sodium loading and sodium restriction on plasma and renal tissue levels of PGA in the normal Wistar and spontaneously hypertensive Aoki rat, and to determine the effect of hypertension on these prostaglandin levels, by using a recently developed radioimmunoassay.

The effect of chronic sodium loading and sodium restriction on plasma prostaglandin A, E, and F concentrations in normal humans.
It has been suggested that prostaglandins may be involved in the control of sodium homeostasis. Prostaglandin A and prostaglandin E have been shown to increase renal blood flow and urinary sodium excretion and prostaglandin A has been shown to stimulate aldosterone release. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of chronic sodium loading and sodium restriction on plasma prostagla...
متن کاملProtective Effects of Co-Treatment With Hydroethanolic Extract of Origanum Vulgare on Gentamicin-Induced Renal Toxicity in Rats
Objective: Renal toxicity and ototoxicity are considered as the main side effects of aminoglycoside antibiotics, such as gentamicin. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of co-treatment by origanum vulgare extract on the gentamicin-induced renal toxicity. Methods: Adult male Wistar rats in the weight range of 200 to 250 grams were randomly assigned into four groups (n = 8): contro...
متن کاملHyperreninemia due to increased renal renin synthesis in BioBreeding Worcester rats.
It is well known that diabetes mellitus is often associated with hypertension. We previously reported the unresponsiveness of renin release to volume depletion with impaired renal prostaglandin E2 synthesis in rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes. However, we have found that BioBreeding Worcester rats, spontaneously susceptible to diabetes mellitus either before or after the onset of diabe...
متن کاملRenal function of conscious spontaneously hypertensive rats.
Renal clearance studies were performed in conscious 13-week-old spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY) before and during volume expansion by intravenous infusion of isotonic saline. Mean arterial pressure and filtration fraction were greater in SHR, whereas fractional and absolute excretion of sodium and water, glomerular filtration rate, and renal plasma...
متن کاملHigh sodium intake enhances renal nerve and antinatriuretic responses to stress in spontaneously hypertensive rats.
The effects of high sodium intake (drinking 0.9% NaCl for 15 days) on the increased renal sympathetic nerve activity and decreased urinary sodium excretion resulting from stressful environmental stimulation (air jet to head) were examined in conscious spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and normotensive Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY). On a normal sodium intake in SHR, air stress increased renal symp...
